Our Cargo Hold Cleaning Capabilities

Failed hold inspections cost owners and charterers days of demurrage. Our trained hold cleaning crews mobilise with elevated work platforms, skid steer loaders, industrial vacuums and full PPE to bring your cargo holds from "dirty on arrival" to survey-ready — in port, at anchorage or alongside during discharge.

Cargo Hold Cleaning — Frequently Asked Questions

What is grain clean standard?

Grain clean (or "high standard") is the most commonly required hold condition for bulk cargoes such as grain, sugar and alumina. Holds must be free of previous cargo residues, loose rust scale, paint flakes and infestation, and must be dry and odour-free — including frames, brackets and other high structures. Our crews clean to this standard and present holds for shipper and charterer surveys.

How quickly can you mobilise a hold cleaning crew?

For Sydney, Newcastle and Port Kembla we can typically mobilise crews and equipment at short notice, including nights and weekends. For other Australian ports, mobilisation is arranged through our logistics division — call +61 426 476 533 for current availability.

Can you clean holds during discharge?

Yes. Where the terminal and Master permit, we work hold-by-hold behind the discharge sequence so the vessel can present cleaned holds for inspection immediately after completion of discharge, minimising idle time at berth.

What happens to the cargo residues?

Residues are swept, vacuumed and bagged into 1,000 kg SWL bulk bags, craned to the wharf and disposed of ashore in accordance with port authority and MARPOL Annex V requirements. Disposal documentation can be provided for the vessel's Garbage Record Book.

What if the surveyor rejects a hold?

Our team remains available for immediate rectification of any items raised at survey — additional frame cleaning, spot grinding, touch-ups or bilge detail work — so the hold can be re-presented the same day wherever possible.
